Room on the Roof, the artist-in-residence program of the Bijenkorf, presents ”window under construction”, an installation of ceramics by Koos Buster. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of de Bijenkorf, the installation can be seen in the shop and in a shop window of the Bijenkorf Amsterdam from 31 July to 14 September.
Especially for the 150th anniversary of the Bijenkorf that is celebrated this year, Buster made five special products of today in clay. From the wildly popular Thick Sole Sneaker by Alexander McQueen and the Loewe Puzzle Bag to the famous ball cake.
Koos Buster was inspired by the unknown logistic world behind the scenes of a department store. Between a set of hammers, drills and other tools is a number of products visible, which are for sale at de Bijenkorf. The ladder is still unfolded and a mannequin leans tilted against the window. Everything indicates that a shop window is being developed on here. In the store, lost ceramic mopping buckets and pin machines remind visitors of the shop window under construction. Everything seems to wobble and the texture of the objects is wavy and artisanal. Koos Buster copies existing everyday objects by copying them in ceramics and glass. The craftsmanship makes the result far from perfect, though a cheerful game with a humorous nod to reality.
